Care instructions
Washing needs will vary depending on what you are using the yarn for, but there are some things to keep in mind when dealing with wool fibers. These tips will help keep your yarn looking fresh for as long as possible!
Wash Bath

-
Wool does not like going from hot to cold quickly. If you must wash with hot water, either let the item cool naturally before rinsing with cool water or rinse with the same temperature water you used to wash.
-
Do not use bleach. Not only will it ruin the color, it can also damage the fibers. This will make the yarn scratchy long before its time.
-
Temperature: 80° - 100°F (30° - 40°C)
-
A small amount of mild wool detergent, such as Woolite (1/2 to 1 tsp/gal)
-
Mild dish detergent, such as Dawn, may also be used (2-4 drops/gal)
IMPORTANT:
-
Temperatures above 120°F/50°C may increase likelihood of felting, fiber damage, or color bleeding
-
Excessive detergent may coat fibers, giving them a waxy feeling after drying making them more difficult and less consistent to work with.
Washing

-
Use a wool conditioner after washing while the item is still damp. Wool is like our hair, it needs certain oils to keep smooth and avoid breakage. We recommend this one.
-
Wool will felt, or become matted, with too much agitation during washing. We recommend hand washing any items made with Aye Dye yarn. Use more of a soak and squeeze method rather than scrubbing
-
Let soak 10 - 30 min with, occasional, mild agitation
-
Rinse with warm water until water runs clear, gently squeezing out excess
-
Protect with wool conditioning product (follow product instructions)
IMPORTANT:
-
Avoid wringing, pulling, and vigorous agitation to prevent felting and fiber damage.
Drying

-
Lay your item flat to dry to avoid it becoming stretched from hanging or felted in the dryer. Laying it on a clean, dry towel will help speed the drying process.
-
Do not iron or steam the wool. This will weaken the fibers and lead to breakage, which will cause the yarn to become scratchy.
-
Lay flat on a towel to dry.
-
A small fan may be used to speed drying time
-
Turn yarn over when top is dry to the touch to speed drying time

IMPORTANT:
-
Do not use tumble drying or excessive heat to prevent felting and fiber damage
-
Avoid hanging yarn to prevent stretching
-
Do Not Iron.
